Mrs. Deodora Entwhistle, Philanthropist
Mrs. Deodora Entwhistle has always been a philanthropist and while most prominently a patron of the arts, she also supports her local hospital as a matter of good will and public charity. During this COVID-19 crisis, she has decided to provide a sector of the local medical community with a matching grant of precisely $10,000. In order to do this, she must first liquidate a few items from her estate. Of course as generous as Mrs. Entwhistle is, she is equally thrifty. She has had her possessions appraised and will only sell the precise combination that will generate the $10,000 needed, not a penny more nor less.
This precise combination of items can be determined by understanding their place in the chronology of her own life experience but only a discerning consumer knows how to weed out the chaff. That is, she is willing to sell only eleven possessions from this larger collection of fifteen. Which ones will she sell? Only you can tell.
OBJECTIVE: Select eleven of Mrs. Entwhistle’s collection to be sold in auction. They must add up to precisely $10,000. Order these items within the timeline of her experience. Using the first letter of each item in order, identify the recipient of the $10,000. Click the button on the bottom of the page when you are ready to “Solve the Puzzle.”
NOTES: Pay attention to the details. When was the item obtained? From whom was it obtained? From where? Why? How might this relate to other items in her list? Feel free to use the on-line “shopping cart” but no purchase is necessary to win. Get a pen and paper and record your observations. When you figure out the secret word, click the button to solve the puzzle.
